NIKKI'S ONE OF A KIND SHOP - NEW STYLES ADDED

Hiya Guys…

No sooner have I got you all thinking about wellness and being kind to yourselves (did you try my juice??? I am dying to hear your thoughts) than my mind has already catapulted me onto something else. Does anyone else with a creative brain find that as soon as one project begins to come together, your creative cogs are already turning with ideas for the next? I am fit to burst with how much exciting news I have to share with you this year, and most importantly, how many brand new designs I have, both in the works and coming your way very soon. I am in the midst of such a creative spell that I wanted to dedicate this blog to my true passion: something that I can’t imagine ever stopping – designing.

First of all I want to start this blog by saying designing is my happy place, whether I am happy, feeling low or anywhere in-between, designing makes me smile I thought, as I get asked so often, I would take you through my design process – if you can call it a process! As my team will attest, at times, it is more the taming and making sense of my chaotic mind and thoughts. I am not what you would call a ‘traditional designer’. I don’t just allot time within my working day to sit with my design team and come up with concepts and final pieces – although that does happen. I suppose you could say my process is a little more fluid than that. Of course, every season starts with trend analysis and looking to WGSN (Worth Global Style Network) for major seasonal influences and pantones. However, after that, I try to stay away from the fashion industry terms of ‘seasonal trends’ or ‘on-trend colours’ – as I hope you all know I prefer my designs to have more of a timeless quality’. My creativity never seems to switch off or pay much attention to seasons or times. Therefore, wherever I go I always carry with me my trusty notebook, for doodles, thoughts, inspiration, and direction. It’s a great starting point for me to make sense of the designs I visualise within my mind. Inspiration can strike me at any time; from a walk to get fresh air, to a movie from a forgotten time, to strolling around a vintage fair. I’ve even been known to wake from a dream with my latest design fresh in my head. With that in mind, I thought I would take you through the inspiration, concepts, and thought processes behind some of my latest designs.

KLEA & JACY

I have had an idea for a while of creating a jewellery set that celebrated the meeting of two design concepts; smooth orbital round beads, combined with an opposing section of structured stone slices. The perfect Yin and Yang. My biggest consideration when making this thought a reality was scale; the size of both cuts of stone had to perfectly complement each other. A balance I am so proud to have achieved within the Klea & Jacy set (after a little back and forth that is!).

Once size and scale are perfected and I have my first design sample in hand, my mind instantly comes alive with colour concepts. And I know without doubt that opposites will attract within this piece. It’s all about striking the perfect contrasting balance, in terms of both colour shade and the natural qualities of the stone. I find sometimes that the most delicate of styles require more intricate thought and consideration in order for me to create a wearable look and I believe I have perfectly achieved that within this set.

REENA

I have never hidden the fact that when I design, I am often selfishly designing for myself. This was most certainly the case with Reena. Anna always says that not a single piece of jewellery ever makes the final collection without the Nikki seal of approval and what can I say, this design definitely got the royal seal! I actually snuck one of the very first samples of this necklace out of the office to wear to a family engagement late last year and I was overwhelmed by the compliments I received.

To create Reena, I was inspired by the past and I revisited one of my original and bestselling designs – the Cassidy bracelet. The classic, organic tumbles have stood the test of time and I know that, like me, so many of you collect this style. I wanted to reimagine this tumble in the perfect neckline filler, with the addition of a flattering, asymmetric pendant to draw attention. This necklace has far surpassed my initial hopes and dreams and I hope you agree!

DERRY

I never forget my core values or design roots when creating a new season’s collection. Celebrating your individuality has always been my main driving force and in remembering that I wanted to reflect this within the Derry design. I wanted to create a wow moment on the wrist. From the perfect circular stones (which I worked with my master craftsmen on for months), to the larger flush-cut squoval shapes that hug your arm in a semi-precious embrace, this bracelet is a culmination of technique, style and statement. I know I talk about my jewellery being for every moment and occasion, but sometimes I push myself to create an incredible design that is as beautiful in appearance as it is in technique. The curvature of the inner circumference of this cuff style bracelet is something that I will never cease to be impressed and amazed by.

DEENA

Sometimes a design strikes me like a lightning bolt. I throw caution to the wind and embrace my inner voice telling me to create something extraordinary. First impressions are everything, and it is my hope that my jewellery designs empower you with the confidence to let the world see the true you. The design of Deena started as a concept to celebrate inner confidence from a connection with semi-precious stone. I used oversized, flat, pebbled discs as a canvas to portray our individuality in a striking one-of-a-kind design. But of course, she had to be wearable; therefore, I knew I needed to balance the design with a delicate, round beaded neckline. The final result for me ensured a design that would forever remind its wearer just how special they are.
